چکیده

The future (third-generation) mobile communications system will provide not only voice and low-speed data services, but also video and high-speed data services. It will eventually have the capability for wireless multimedia communications. As a radio-access technique for such a system, the code-division multiple access (CDMA) has been considered in many potential third-generation systems including CODIT [12] and the proposal in [14]. In this paper, we model those CDMA systems as the spectrally overlaid multiband CDMA (SOM-CDMA) system. In an SOM-CDMA system, several CDMA (sub)systems with different spreading bandwidths are spectrally overlaid with each other. The reverse-link capacity of an SOM-CDMA system is calculated, and some numerical results are presented with discussion. As a result, we demonstrate how much capacity the SOM-CDMA has and how we can achieve an optimal allocation of frequency and power between (sub)systems. The results in this paper can be used as a guideline in designing the radio network of SOM-CDMA systems as well as a means to assess the performance of given systems. The results can be applied to any CDMA system with an SOM-CDMA concept, including CODIT and the proposal in [14].

Capacity Estimation for Overlaid Multiband CDMA Systems with SIR-Based Power Control

As a flexible way to accommodate a variety of services, a number of spreading bands are now considered in International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) systems and more than two (overlaid) bands can be operated simultaneously in CDMA systems. Capacity estimation in CDMA systems is an important issue in performance analysis and call admission control (CAC), which is closely related to ...

Effect of Bandwidth and Spreading Codes on Spectrum Utilization of Spectrally Overlaid CDMA Systems

In this paper, we analyze capacity and spectrum utilization of spectrally overlaid systems using single-code CDMA (SC-CDMA) and multi-code CDMA (MC-CDMA) techniques according to varying system parameters. The spectrum utilization defined as maximally achievable total throughput in the overlaid systems is compared with that of the un-overlaid systems. Analytical results show that the dominant pa...

Capacities of spectrally overlaid single-code and multicode CDMA systems

This paper is concerned with the capacities of spectrally overlaid narrow-band and wide-band systems using two code-division multiple-access (CDMA) techniques: a single-code and a multicode. The capacity is defined here as the maximally achievable total throughput in the narrow-band and wide-band subsystems. User signal power in the overlay systems affects the performance of the systems. The si...

Capacity analysis of spectrally overlaid macro/microcellular CDMA systems supporting multiple types of traffic

The reverse link capacity of a spectrally overlaid macrocell/microcell cellular code-division multiple-access system supporting various types of traffic is analyzed. Several narrow-band subsystems are overlaid with a wide-band subsystem in macrocells, while in a microcell a single narrow-band subsystem is operated with the same spectrum as one of the macrocell narrow-band subsystems. Using a ty...

Emerging Optical CDMA Techniques and Applications

In this paper we present an in-depth review on the trends and the directions taken by the researchers worldwide in Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) systems. We highlight those trends and features that are believed to be essential to the successful introduction of various OCDMA techniques in communication systems and data networks in near future. In particular we begin by giving a c...
